Daily Kos - CatJab: Marcy Winograd Progressive campaign in CA - Videos

Daily Kos:

Marcy Winograd Debates Jane Harman!

Blue Dog Jane Harman has been doing everything possible to avoid bumping into Marcy Winograd, much less debating her.
But during the recent California Democratic Convention, at the meeting of the Progressive Caucus (which Marcy helped to found!) Jane had little choice but to finally face her progressive challenger.

Well, that is until Harman decides time's up! Gotta run!
Perhaps she was off to find some of those evil insurgents hiding out in Yemen.
!?!
Yup. Yemen.

The debate offered a rare chance to see the two candidates of CA-36 on the same stage. I haven't seen these videos posted yet, and I thought they're important enough to share.

CatJab's diary

Winograd, a teacher by trade in South LA, is a compellingly earnest Progressive Democrat running against "the best Republican in the Democratic Party" Jane Harman in the Democratic Primary
in California on June 8th.
(and yes, that was Jane Harman's description of herself!)

'Save Our Schools' Rally May 25 - CORE Lawsuit Demands Budget Detail

CORE Files Lawsuit to Force CPS to “Open the Books”

Excerpted from Trib story by Azam Ahmed

The Caucus of Rank and File Educators filed a lawsuit May 20 in the Circuit Court of Cook County alleging that the district has not complied with formal requests in late March and April seeking documents and communication relating to next year’s district budget.

A projected $600 million shortfall has prompted the school district to threaten teacher layoffs and increased class sizes. That, in turn, has brought recriminations from teacher groups who say the district’s fiscal house is not in order.  Read more »

Illinois Media Progressives Video Blog: Bill Bianchi & Donna Smith; Dr. Quentin Young & Illinois Single Payer Coalition

Blog: Illinois Media Progressives - Strength, Strategy, and Donna Smith

The fight continues in earnest for health care for all.

Activists from across the whole bleeding state of Illinois, including representatives from PDA, CNA, Chi-SPAN, Champaign County Health Care Consumers and other members of the Illinois Single Payer Coalition gathered at Augustana Church in President Obama’s old Hyde Park neighborhood to talk about health care.
The consensus was:  We ain’t done yet! ...We can do better and we can do more. Specifically, to keep pushing hard for a single payer plan, like Medicare, improved and expanded to everyone. That’s the path to

Separation of Corporation and State: Healthcare

Separation of Corporation and State: Healthcare

by John Laesch, April 3, 2010

My political career began on a cold evening in the dimly lit labor hall of Laborers Local 362 on Cabin Town Road, in Bloomington, IL. It was the monthly Democratic Party meeting and I had no intention of speaking. After representatives from other campaigns spoke, I felt the need to represent my 2004 presidential pick. The words fell out of my mouth with no cadence or inspiration and I’m confident that nothing I said was remembered by the 20-25 attendees who were being pressured by party leaders to send Rod Blagojevich another $500 contribution. But there it was: the 12 words that have somehow come to define my political activism: “The task of my generation is the separation of corporation and state.”

What is the Ideology of the Senate Health Care Bill?

Democrats Who Once Railed Against Medicare Part D Now Insist Members Must Vote for Strikingly Similar Senate Health Insurance Reform Bill

By: Jon Walker Monday March 15, 2010 7:12 am

One thing that has been eating away at me throughout this whole health care debate is the incredible hypocrisy and role reversal of both political parties compared to the Medicare Part D debate. The basic, highly corrupt design of the Senate health care bill is the same as the highly corrupt design as the Medicare Part D program.

Just think about the similarities. Both were meant to address serious problems—for the Medicare drug program, seniors unable to afford life-saving medication, and, with today’s legislation, people unable to afford health insurance. And, in both cases, instead of solving the problem in the cheapest, most direct way by having Medicare just provide these groups with what they need, a wasteful, convoluted, “market” system was created to use the program to enrich industry players and unneeded middlemen.  Read more »

Democrats and health care, just where they want to be?

Not Spineless, but Ruthless!

The push to "get something done" on health care no matter what front group is pushing it, comes ultimately from Democratic Party leaders who think that if they pass the weak Senate version of insurance reform, they can call it reform and be done.  Think lipstick on a pig.  Read more »

PDA-Illinois Terms Current Health Bill, 'A National Error'

PDA-Illinois Demands Truly Universal, Comprehensive, Cost-Effective, Equitable Quality Health Care For All

WE OPPOSE PROFIT DRIVEN 'REFORM!'

Under the proposed health insurance reform bills, the American people lose, the corporate world wins. The present bills if passed  create a tax-payer supporter welfare program for the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries.  How did this happen? Through campaign finance donations, lobbying, and revolving-door payoffs.  Here is why we oppose the bills:  Read more »
