Could, Should Mark Kirk Receive a Dishonorable Discharge?

From Tenth Congressional District Democrats website.

"The congressman [Mark Kirk IL-10] has never been one to minimize his talents. Once, in a candidate debate, he responded to a question about immigration reform by announcing grandly, "I could answer that question in Spanish, since I attended Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico." Kirk finds himself amazing and expects you to agree." ... Steve Chapman, Chicago Tribune columnist

The problems are piling up for Mark Kirk, [Republican candidate for Barak Obama's former senate seat].  And he has no one to blame but himself.

According to Nitpicker Blog,  it's against the law for active duty military to campaign for political office. Yet, it appears Mark Kirk may have done so. Nitpicker Blog  If Kirk is found guilty of this offense, he can receive a dishonorable discharge from the military and face two years of jail.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to track the number of times [Kirk has] "simply misremembered it wrong."
1)  He said he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. He didn't.   Washington Post

2)  He said he was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm in 1990-1991. He wasn't.
Daily Kos

3) He said he was shot at by the Iraqis. It never happened. Huffington Post

4) He said he "served in Iraq." That's an exaggeration. Chicago Sun-Times

5) He said he commanded the Pentagon's War Room. [No, he didn't say that].  He did say he was Intelligence Officer of the Year. Nope.  The media are beginning to catch on to Kirk. Rachel Maddow delivered a blistering critique of Kirk's embellishments, Rachel Maddow

For Mark Kirk, playing with the facts goes beyond trumping up his military credentials. He has misrepresented or bent the truth on a number of other matters as well. To trump up his support for oil drilling, he said China is drilling off the coast of Cuba. Not true. And he said we buy oil from Iran. Not true. Chicago Sun-Times

But those of us who know Mark Kirk's record as a congressman are not surprised by these revelations. Kirk has long taken credit for things he didn't do, such as claiming in a debate that he wrote laws to improve airport safety. Not true.

Kirk also has a long history of claiming to be moderate, but the real truth is, he is willing to go in whichever direction is best for his career.

Yesterday, he was for Cap and Trade, tomorrow not for Cap and Trade. And that's why environmental groups no longer endorse Mark Kirk. They don't trust him. Chicago Sun-Times

Yesterday, he was for gay rights. But then he votes to keep "Don't Ask...Don’t Tell." That's why groups concerned with equality no longer endorse Mark Kirk. They don't know what he stands for. Human Rights Campaign Endorsement

He's also been abandoned by pro-choice groups, because he keeps shifting his position. They don't believe him anymore. Planned Parenthood Endorsement

What does Mark Kirk believe in? He believes in Mark Kirk.

Mark Kirk will say anything and do anything to advance his career. He will embellish his military record, bend the facts to suit his argument, and vote both ways on the same issue to make you think he's a moderate. He has done it for years. That's who he is. It's a part of his character. Is that the kind of Senator we want?
